I began working with stained glass in 1989. We moved to Stuart, VA, in 1994 and my husband began a restoration project of his dad's furniture store in downtown Stuart. This 1925 building is now home to the Bull Mountain Arts Co-op and The Depot Emporium. My commission work is my joy. It’s fun to create a customer's project from design concepts and let them pick the glass and colors they enjoy. I also make fused glass crosses. My work is displayed in homes, churches, and businesses.

Brushes don't make paintings and computers don't make art-Computers are easy. - Art is hard. Computers, acrylics, encaustics and collage fuse in my work. A reviewer has called it "mixed media on steroids. It is invigorating, flexible and lively!" My chief goal over the years has been to push the "new" computer medium to its expressive limit, while retaining the best of traditional studio media.

A great love for the Appalachians inspires the variety of subject material for my watercolor art. My concentration on painting spring houses, something that is quickly fading away, (typically located near a spring where cool water flowed through, these structures were used to house milk, eggs, butter, etc.) helps to preserve those things that will soon be gone. I have a studio in my home and in process of completing a gallery. I am also a watercolor art instructor.

I got hooked on glass as a medium three years ago after taking my first jewelry class. I love doing things that use a kiln, it is always like Christmas when you open them up. At least three layers of hand cut glass are carefully designed and placed in a kiln. It is then fired to 1500 degrees, slowly cooled to anneal properly, then reshaped if necessary and fire polished. I am finding glass a fascinating medium especially the dichroic, I always look for something new that someone will enjoy.

Walking through these Blue Ridge Mountains have become the inspiration for the many different colorways in my hand weaving. I enjoy the traditional patterns which were used when weaving at home was a necessity, and I hold a deep appreciation for the weavers who have gone before. My weaving includes wool lap robes, blankets, coverlets, rugs and houshold cotton items such as towels, table covers, placemats and fabric yardage. Natural vegetable dyes and commerical dyes are used in my work.

I am interested in creative art-making as a process. I believe that we all have an innate need to create and that creative expression (which can take many forms) is essential to our health and wellness. I am particularly interested in the process of mandala making and for the past seven years have been exploring the use of personal mandalas in my own life and well as with others. More recently, I have become interested in the re-purposing of books as a creative endeavor.

Theology, 20 years a Lutheran pastor, enables me to integrate music in a spiritual sense. Each instrument is one-of-a-kind and individually handmade. I choose a variety of woods, match them to the best advantage for both aesthetics & sound. Therefore, the size & shape may be similar but each in a unique work of love & art from the beginning to the end.

All my life, I have had a need to create by sketching the small dramas being played out in nature. In painting the subjects that I am familiar with from growing up in the rural mountains of Southwest Virginia, I have diligently developed my own style which I feel is still evolving and growing. I feel that the past intermingles with the present and influences the future. The vignettes of everyday life are nostalgic reminders of where we came from and hints of where we are going.

I use batik, an ancient textile art to create one of a kind fiber art. I currently work mainly on silk in the form of scarves, shawls, wraps, mens ties and wall hangings. Batik is a resist process. The designs are hand-drawn with molten wax using brushes and a pen-like tool called a tjanting. Layers of color and design are built up by alternately applying wax and dyes.

Polymer Clay is an awesome medium to work with and what a thrill it is for me to teach it to all ages and abilities. I also enjoy the freedom that it gives in that one day I can be creating jewelry, the next day it could be business card holders, covered tins and containers, embellished mirrors or vases, covered handles, wall art, embellished bird houses, hair accessories, ink pens, rings holders, garden art, picture frames, or perhaps a custom order from a customer.
