I worked for the National Park Service for more than 30 years, alternating work assignments between the Appalachian mountains and the Atlantic coast. Now retired, I enjoy creating utilitarian pottery that functions as fine art for daily use. The beauty of the natural world influences many of the design elements in my work. In addition to working in my Hillsville, VA studio, I also teach pottery classes in Galax, VA at Chestnut Creek School of the Arts and am a working member at City Gallery – Galax, a co-op gallery.
I studied clay and fiber at Florida State University and the University of Tennessee and have taken classes at Penland, John C. Campbell, Arrowmont and Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts.
I make wheel-thrown and hand-built stoneware pottery designed to be used in the kitchen, at the table and in the garden. Nature provides the inspiration for much of my work in both form and color.
