Katie Mallory is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and lover of the outdoors and nature. As a horse-crazy little girl, her early art was based on the Equine form, inspired by Sam Savitt’s popular book, Draw Horses. Katie pursued oil painting in high school, influenced by Bob Ross, and made her first art sale when she sold an original to a classmate for ten dollars. She eventually transitioned to acrylic on canvas and then rock, and finally began watercolor painting in 2022.
Her love for photography also began in high school and she is blessed to daily use her photography and editing skills in her full time employment in higher education.
Katie uses art as a respite from a busy work life, even incorporating her passion for her work with cadets at Virginia Tech into her art at times. While she is drawn primarily to landscape subjects, her body of work (which has been described as whimsical, playful, and bright) includes many animals and floral pieces.
She’s madly in love with her husband and extremely proud of her equally artistic daughter. They live in Christiansburg with three dogs and an inspiring backyard view of the mountains.
