Barbara Nichols Designs morphed into being over time when I retired from the Information Technology industry. With my new found time, I began exploring my thoughts about what I would like to do that makes me happy.

For the next 15 years of my retirement I began making jewelry. I have always admired items made by hand, especially when the medium comes from the earth, so I researched metal.

I make wire jewelry using various types of metal; Copper, Sterling silver and Argentium silver (primarily) and semi precious beads. My personal gold filigree diamond ring was the inspiration for the filigree style for which I am known. The techniques I use to make wire jewelry are wire wrapping, lashing, soldering, fusing, texturing and oxidation.

It is my passion to make jewelry with elements created by the earth.

I design pendants, earrings, and bracelets based upon a filigree style using metal wire of various types and gauges.  My inspiration comes from noticing different shapes of items I see in every day life. Usually my pieces are made in seperate parts and then fitted together by either lashing, wrapping, fusing, or soldering.  At times, I will add semi-precious gemstone beads to my designs.
