I have been involved in theatre and entertainment for over fifty years. Many local theatre productions. Began performing as the Mayberry Deputy in 1989 and worked with many of the actors from The Andy Griffith Show and The Dukes of Hazzard. Found a new interest in oil painting in 2016. Have been painting ever since. Some acrylic but mostly concentration in oil.

I am a self taught woodworker that dabbles in several different mediums I mostly turn bowls and vases and eccentric pieces. I also do blacksmith work. I have made Windsor chairs and made almost all the tools to make it. I have a saying that I am but the puppet and the wood is the puppeteer. The wood speaks to me and I just create what is has always knew it would be and in whose care it will be bestowed.

Katie Mallory is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and lover of the outdoors and nature. As a horse-crazy little girl, her early art was based on the Equine form, inspired by Sam Savitt’s popular book, Draw Horses. Katie pursued oil painting in high school, influenced by Bob Ross, and made her first art sale when she sold an original to a classmate for ten dollars. She eventually transitioned to acrylic on canvas and then rock, and finally began watercolor painting in 2022. Her love for photography also began in high school and she is blessed to daily use her photography and editing skills in her full time employment in higher education. Katie uses art as a respite from a busy work life, even incorporating her passion for her work with cadets at Virginia Tech into her art at times. While she is drawn primarily to landscape subjects, her body of work (which has been described as whimsical, playful, and bright) includes many animals and floral pieces. She’s madly in love with her husband and extremely proud of her equally artistic daughter. They live in Christiansburg with three dogs and an inspiring backyard view of the mountains.

Mountain-Artisan’s mission is “Bringing art from wood.”

With over 30 years of crafting experience in the local Appalachian Mountain region, we inter mingle artistic designs into beautiful wood products that reflect more than just the beauty of the wood.

Our hand crafted range of products honor the local historical culture of the surrounding area using themes that produce items with dimension and personality. It is setting one's self to work in a manner where all aspects of the design and execution of a piece are done thoughtfully and with close attention to detail. We are able to customize most items and handle special orders in our home based shop.

The interrelationship of our artistic designs, technical knowledge of wood working, and laser engraving techniques is applied to the interaction of various wood substrates. This careful and technical approach generates useful items to adorn one’s house, like our light switch covers, and to adorn one’s person, such as our wooden jewelry.
