I primarily work on canvas and paper.  Because I have been in the business of making art for a long time, my work continues to evolve.  I've added digital to my list of mediums. I resisted digital at first, but now I enjoy it.  I suppose that nothing will ever replace working in more of a 'hands on medium', however, I recognize advantages of digital.

I classify my work as lyrical.  I believe I coined that term, but I won't arm wrestle anyone to prove that.  Much of my work is in watercolor, then mixed mediums, then acrylic.  I dabble in clay, textiles, and photography.

I have published two books and I have a few private outlets for my literary talents.

I consider myself a fine artist whereby I create art with no other purpose than to create art. That is the definition of a fine artist. I have a BFA  and I also hold a graduate degree in art therapy.

Art therapy is a very effective form of therapy. However, far too many make the mistake of believing that it does not require special training. It does. As with anything, beware of amateurs.

I love picking up a piece of wood discover what is inside. I create my own blanks for woodturning and cull wood from deadfall on my property or what is donated by friends and neighbors.

Laurel Ridge Studios is a heritage craft studio dedicated to the art of traditional Appalachian broom and brush making. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, our work honors the legacy of handmade utility objects—where beauty, function, and tradition meet in every fiber. Using time-honored techniques and natural materials, each broom is crafted by hand with a focus on integrity, durability, and design. From classic sweepers to hand brooms and specialty brushes, our pieces are made to be used—and treasured—for generations. At Laurel Ridge Studios, we believe that everyday tools can carry stories, connect us to place, and elevate the rhythm of daily life. Our brooms are not just tools; they are a return to craftsmanship, a celebration of slow living, and a tribute to the Appalachian spirit.

This studio uses glass as its major medium for artistic expression. Kilnformed glass is a fused glass or warm glass art. This studio paints with glass by fusing various colored glasses together to form an art panel which can be shelf displayed or hung by various modalities. Optionally Art panels are formed into bowls and plate for functional art. Moreover, this studio produces one-of-a-kind glass jewelry signed by the artist. This studio is a working glass studio and has an industrial flavor. You will be able to view the inventory at this facility.
